IDK® Turbidimetric Assays are compatible with our Turbidimetric Stool Sample Preparation Tubes for the determination of all three turbidimetric parameters from one stool sample. In addition, each assay correlates to the ELISA format, allowing for an easy transition for high-throughput laboratories currently using the corresponding ELISAs and looking to optimize their workflow.

How Turbidimetry Works

 

The assays IDK® TurbiCAL®, IDK® TurbiFIT®, and IDK® TurbiPEL® are particle enhanced turbidimetric immunoassays – in short, called PETIA. This type of immunoassay is based on a latex agglutination reaction, which allows for short incubation times. These assays are carried out using clinical chemistry analyzers, allowing for continuous loading and random-access workflow.

 

Latex particles coated with specific antibodies are mixed with the sample. Within a few minutes, the antigen in the sample reacts with the antibodies coated to the latex particles. Due to this reaction, aggregates are formed in the sample, which causes turbidity.

 

The level of turbidity is measured by the absorbance of detection light at a certain wavelength, which is proportional to the amount of antigen in the sample. The more antigen present in the sample, the more aggregates are formed and more light is absorbed.

Those application notes contain information regarding assay set up on the specific clinical chemistry analyzer. In addition, they provide the analyzer-specific performance characteristics of the assay as well as the application parameters.

IDK® TurbiPEL®

IDK® TurbiPEL® determines the biomarker pancreatic elastase in human stool samples. It is intended to diagnose an exocrine pancreatic insufficiency and monitor exocrine pancreas function.

IDK® TurbiCAL®

IDK® TurbiCAL® determines the biomarker calprotectin in human stool samples. It is intended for the differential diagnosis between inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome.

Furthermore, IDK® TurbiCAL® can be used for therapy monitoring of intestinal inflammatory status.

IDK® TurbiFIT®

IDK® TurbiFIT® determines the biomarker hemoglobin in human stool samples. It is intended for the detection of occult (hidden) blood and serves as an aid in colon cancer screening.

Stool Sample Preparation Made Easy

All three IDK® turbidimetric assays are compatible with our Turbidimetric Stool Sample Preparation Tubes. This allows for the determination of all three turbidimetric parameters from one stool sample.

Getting Started with IDK® Turbidimetric Tools

 

We recommend a calibration – using the full set of six calibrators – at least once a month or when the reagent lot is changed. The included controls should be run every day before starting the clinical procedure to validate the stored calibration curve.
